It’s A Women’s World: The ‘Ladies’ Château’ of the Loire Valley

It’s A Women’s World: The ‘Ladies’ Château’ of the Loire Valley

A French barge cruise on one of European Waterways luxurious, fully-crewed barge hotels is an experience to remember. We firmly believe that there is no better way to explore the Continent than from the water.
The Nymphea hosts our French barge cruise in the Loire Valley, passing under the remarkable five-arch bridge of the Château de Chenonceau. Built in a pale grey stone, the bridge’s symmetrical curves are juxtaposed against the castle’s pointed turrets and enchant our guests time and time again

It’s not only architecture and engineering buffs who fall in love on the banks of the River Cher. The unique history of the Château – spanning from the early sixteenth century to the modern day – is well worth discovering.

Hidden Histories

Cruising beneath the repeated arches of the gallery aboard our French barge cruise, our guests often wonder who created them.

Today we are looking at some of the famous inhabitants of the ‘Ladies’ Château’ – the women who shaped both this beautiful building and France.

The Mistress: Diane de Poitiers

Intellectual, royal-favourite Diane de Poitiers lived in sixteenth-century France; no decorative wallflower, Diane was intelligent and politically savvy. She became so well-liked by King Henry II that she often wrote and signed official correspondence on his behalf using the portmanteau ‘HenriDiane’.

Diane was also the King’s mistress for over two decades – perhaps the most powerful woman in the country. As Henry’s mistress she was given the Château de Chenonceau. Diane not only lovingly developed the gardens, she commissioned the stunning arched bridge spanning the river – one of the most iconic architectural features of the Loire Valley.

The Wife: Catherine de’Medici

Catherine de’Medici was the wife of Henry II and, understandably, was jealous Diane’s influential position in Henry’s court. After Henry’s death Catherine forced Diane de Poitiers, the legal owner of the property, to leave and triumphantly took possession herself. Determined to make the Château her own, Catherine installed a grand gallery running across Diane’s bridge – the strong-willed widow had successfully displaced the trusted mistress.

Under Catherine’s management, the castle became the site for many extravagant parties and, rumour has it, the first ever firework display in France lit up the sky over one of her night time revels.

The Saloniste: Louise Dupin

During the French Enlightenment, eighteenth-century French women were at the centre of literary, artistic and cultural advancements. Louise Dupin, who lived in the Château de Chenonceau with her husband, formed a literary salon there which drew in leaders of the Enlightenment movement such as Voltaire, Condillac, Buffon and Bernard le Bovier de Fontenelle.

An intelligent woman herself, Louise saved the building during the widespread destruction of property prompted by the Revolution. Louise pointed out that the arched bridge provided a rare crossing place on the river essential for the movement of people and trade. As a result of her quick thinking and bravery we can enjoy the splendour of the Château de Chenonceau in the twenty-first century.

Is Sleeping Bare better for a Healthy Men’s Organ

Is Sleeping Bare better for a Healthy Men’s Organ

As is known, sleep is quite important for a person’s overall health, including the health of male members. But besides just close your eyes so that people feel primed because of energetic activity, is there anything that a man needs to do to make sure his sleep is more directly translated into a healthy male organ? For example, does a naked sleep affect whether a man has a healthy male organ or not?
Let’s look at some of the pros and cons associated with sleeping naked for men.

Is Sleeping Bare better for a Healthy Men’s Organ

Advantages

– It broadcasts members out Bad breath can be a significant problem for many men – and there are different turn-offs for many couples (and potential spouses). Sleeping naked will not necessarily solve the problem of too many aromatic members, but it can help. Giving male organs a chance to air out for several hours every day can make a difference.

– This reduces the potential for rash. Because maturity is maintained under two layers of clothing throughout the day – panties and underwear – tends to become hot and sweaty. When there is heat and moisture, the conditions are right for bacteria and / or fungi to grow, and that is bad news for soft skin. A rash and yeast or yeast rash is more likely to occur, and it does not fit a healthy male organ.

– This can increase the absorption of nutrients. Fierce skin, especially when it airs and stores fewer bacteria, tends to be easier to accept the absorption of essential nutrients. This is especially useful if a man applies a member’s health crème with significant nutritional content before bedtime.

– This can help with fertility problems. At this point, most men have heard about studies that show that too much heat in the middle of the body can have a negative impact on seed production. Many of these studies also show that underwear, especially tight underwear, can increase the heat factor in the middle part of the body to the detriment of the seed.

Counter

– Can be rough on the skin. If a man sleeps on a sheet or under a rough or itchy blanket, this can damage the sensitive member’s skin. And if bedclothes are washed with strong detergent or bleach, harsh chemicals can affect the skin on maturity. (Of course, if the men’s underwear or pajamas were washed with the same substance, that would also be a problem.)

– Some men feel uncomfortable. Some men do not like the “too close” feel of bed sheets on a male organ. And if someone does not feel comfortable, they also do not sleep – and that’s not good for their overall health. Is Sleeping Bare better for a Healthy Men’s Organ

– Can be too stimulating. Some men feel they get more excited more easily while sleeping naked – which can lead to a late (and long) entertainment session when they really need to rest. Sure, a little private playing time is occasionally fine, but if it ends up delaying sleeping regularly, it could be a problem.

Basically, it all comes down to personal choice and what a person feels. But many doctors agree that if men choose to sleep with underwear or pajamas, it should be a little loose and not narrowed.

Maintaining a healthy male organ, whether in sleep or naked clothes, is made much easier with a first class member health cricket application (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven to be mild and safe for the skin). If odor is a problem, especially a persistent odor, find crème with vitamin A. The antibacterial properties of the vitamin can be very helpful in minimizing the smell of watermelon. It also pays to choose a crème that includes vitamin B5 among its herbs. Also called pantothenic acid, this is the vital nutrient needed for cell metabolism and healthy tissue maintenance. Go Sky High & Ski Free in Courmayeur

Go Sky High & Ski Free in Courmayeur

Courmayeur, nestled in the Italian Alps at the foot of Mont Blanc, may be famous as an elegant ski resort but for those who want the snow and mountains without the high octane thrills, it also offers a range of other activities.
With exclusive boutiques and excellent restaurants scattered around the resort’s pretty pedestrianised centre, combined with the short transfer from Geneva to Courmayeur, it makes a wonderful spot for a winter break, even without the skiing.

Mountain Views Without Skis

Restaurants and boutiques are all very well, but if you’ve come to the Alps for stunning mountain views but don’t want to do too much walking then you’ll be thrilled to discover that the Skyway Monte Bianco cable car makes the mountains accessible to all.

First built as a way of connecting the Italians of Courmayeur with the town of Chamonix in France as early as the 1930s, the original cables were destroyed by French fighter planes during World War Two.

After the war, a station was opened at 3300m, but engineers were unable to reach the summit due to the shifting glacier ice. It wasn’t until 2015 that the top station at Punta Helbronner was finally opened at 3466m.

Today the Skyway Monte Bianco takes visitors from Courmayeur, up through a series of stations, to the summit of Mont Blanc with views of many of the Alps’ highest peaks.

Spend Time at the Skyway Stations

Starting at Pontal, visitors are swept up the face of Mont Blanc to the first station of Pavillon du Mont Fréty.

Those who just want to feel they are at the heart of the mountain landscape will enjoy spending the day at the station here, enjoying the botanical garden (which specialises in Alpine plants) or relaxing in its restaurant, shopping area or cinema.

For a truly breathtaking view of the Alps, carry on up the cable car to the top station at Punta Helbronner. The modern structure (designed to look like a shard of ice) has a 360º viewing terrace and a crystal museum, as well as a café, bar and restaurant.

Relax with a Skyway Spa

Put all thoughts of aching skiing muscles out of your mind and instead imagine staying at the Pré-Saint-Didier Spa and indulging in its ‘Spa and Cable Car’ package. The deal includes days spent on Mont Blanc at the Skyway’s beautiful stations, followed by relaxing, rejuvenating treatments in the spa’s elegant therapy rooms.

How to Get There

Since relaxation and beautiful scenery is at the heart of your winter break to Courmayeur, it’s good to know that getting there couldn’t be easier. There are regular flights from the UK to Geneva, and a short, easy transfer of an hour and a half from Geneva to Courmayeur.

For the ultimate stress-free transfer from Geneva to Courmayeur, book an executive car with Shuttle Direct before you leave home and we’ll be there to meet you at the arrivals lounge when you land and take you directly to your resort accommodation.

Cruising the Waterways: Spontaneous Moments and Cultural Experiences

Cruising the Waterways: Spontaneous Moments and Cultural Experiences

For the uninitiated, the idea of a barge holiday may seem like an odd way to see a country. However, ask anyone who has travelled the waterways of Europe and they will explain with gusto the beauty of cruising through foreign landscapes, tasting gourmet food and wine and learning about local culture and customs.
A barge holiday offers an intimate and immersive way to explore a new place. Not only will you get a novel perspective of the landscape from your position on the water, you will gain inimitable insights from experiences catered to your own tastes and interests.

Spontaneous Moments

Though a barge holiday with European Waterways is always meticulously planned, the gentle rhythm of travel allows plenty of time to become acquainted with some of the more unusual aspects of a country or region. Of course, we enjoy showing guests iconic architecture and famous landmarks, we know that they equally appreciate unplanned, authentic moments where they can truly connect to people and places.

This is what we call an ‘insider experience’: an experience possibly unique to the small group of people travelling on your hotel barge creating a memory you will cherish forever.

We love spontaneous moments in which our guests can form relationships with people they meet along the journey. For example, one memorable afternoon our guests were treated to a private tour of a Burgundian lock-keeper’s immaculate garden and cottage before being asked to share a glass of Pastis. They bravely joined him in a game of boules and though our guests played valiantly they were thoroughly beaten by the locals! In the past, our holiday-makers have received a tour of the beautifully tended grounds of a Scottish castle and given a knowledgeable talk by the head gardener.

As many of our guests are wine connoisseurs, we often seek out interesting wine-related adventures. One fortunate group were shown round a beautiful Renaissance castle by the owner himself. The count then took his fascinated visitors down into his excellent wine cellar – we were all very envious! There is also a certain wooden boat on the River Loire well-known to our guests. The hospitable owner is very happy to share a carafe of crisp white wine with his passengers.

Cultural Experiences

We try and lead our guests away from the typical tourist haunts and introduce them to locals whenever possible. From master clockmakers in Holland to builders in a Thames-side boatyard, these craftsmen always have stories to tell and are a fantastic way to tap into the rich history of the waterways. We encourage an appreciation of traditional values and skills – whether the job is the manoeuvring of delicate cogwheels or the creation of an entire vessel, you’ll be impressed! Meeting and learning from locals is one of the best ways to gain a comprehensive cultural knowledge of a region that a guide book just couldn’t deliver.

If you crave a real understanding of the places you visit then maybe a barge holiday is just what you’re looking for.

Paul Newman is the Marketing and E-Systems Executive for European Waterways, the UK’s most respected provider of all-inclusive, luxury barge holiday itineraries. Part of a team of experienced barging aficionados, Paul is first in line to endorse the perks of a slow-paced barge cruise to anyone looking for a unique holiday experience.

Michael Dadoun, the CEO of UpClick Displays a Strong Sense of Purpose in Business

Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail€”Harold McAlindon

Leadership is all about setting a precedent for others to follow. Exceptional leaders over the ages have been providing people the inspiration to dream big and achieve big. Quality leaders always believe that if you inspire your followers to reach for the moon, they might bring you back the moon. Michael Dadoun is the CEO of Montreal, Canada based payment processing firm UpClick. A hard working and dedicated leader, Michael has been a constant source of inspiration for his team members.

In the following paragraphs we shall pay close attention to some of the important leadership qualities that separates an exceptional leader from a mediocre one.

Learn, Teach, Develop

€If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.€ – John Quincy Adams

Quality leaders know what they know, but more importantly they know what they do not know. Learning for them is a never-ending process and occupying the top position in the organization does make them casual or complacent about discovering new ways and means of doing things. Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other and good leaders never stop looking for opportunities for professional development.

A Strong Sense of Purpose

€You don’t lead by pointing and telling people some place to go. You lead by going to that place and making a case.€ – Ken Kesey

This is one quality that all high performing past and present leaders have in common. Top leaders have a clearly defined purpose and a clear sense of direction about where they are going and what they wish to achieve both in the short and long run.

The correlation between purpose and success is self-explanatory as purpose fuels passion and work ethics. Leaders who lake passion or work ethics have as much chance of succeeding as an ice cube in hell. Leaders without any sense of purpose or direction are most likely to consign their organizations to the chaos of mediocrity, followed by the pain of obsolescence.

Michael Dadoun, the CEO of Montreal based UpClick is a leader who strongly believes that a unified purpose can endure all things. He is a person with full knowledge of the present and a good idea of the future. He is fully aware of what the market will be like in the coming time and what requires to be done for the organization to keep it competitive.

People before Self

The power is detested, and miserable the life, of him who wishes to be feared rather than to be loved€”Cornelius Nepos

Quality leaders are well aware of the fact that they are nothing without their followers. They treat people with respect and try their best to develop their human capital. Superior leaders are more interested in giving people a better life rather than creating a group of €yes-men’.

Michael Dadoun, the CEO of Montreal based UpClick is respected and loved by his employees. He treats them well and with respect and always strives to give them the best.
